I honestly don’t enjoy hearing my own voice. i think it’s a little bit too weird to hear it because after recording, the voice eventually changes. While recording my poscast i find it difficult especially in the pronounciation because i’m french educated and it seemed difficult for me to speak a “fluent english” in a correct way that’s why i repeated recording way too many times… editing was even harder because this was my very first time doing this so it was hard for me to edit it!

• What is mass communication ?

Mass communication also known as “mass com” is a method of transferring news and transmitting information through several forms of channels in order to reach an immense audience which tends to be huge and varied. Referring the inputs can be done out of these following ways : television, radio and social media (digital and electronic) or journals and newspapers (printed) .

• What is media literacy ?  

Media literacy is the capacity to read and write. A literate population stay updated about every day’s news and make sure to decode and treat the messages and symbols transferred via the media. Those who are media literate learn to stand out and raise the right questions about what they are watching, reading or listening to. They always ask about the author’s name , his credentials , the reasons behind every message, ect.  That’s why we say that media literacy is about analyzing, assessing and transmitting every information.

• “The media” has a big influence on society. Nowadays, it influences so many people’s attitude.  It can affect, incline and pressurize society, along with even dominating over the world at times in both favorable and unfavorable ways; rationally, physically and emotionally. We are restricted in a society extremely affected by media and are incapable to differentiate between reality and normality showed by media components. After “the media” everything has changed , especially with the aid links from social media sites where you receive the information so rapidly not knowing if it’s true, false or an opinion. Media permanently reminds society of human wholeness shown in personalities and famous people , which can be observed on billboards, magazines, TV and on the internet. The society is becoming obsessed with image and particularly weight. For exemple, we can see reality TV programs  for weight loss and plastic surgery, which are components that further mess up the minds of people and mostly young ones .

Media own diverse basic roles in our society. Through bringing us stories of all kinds, media has the power to take us away from ourselves. It has a massive number of benefits and problems.

• Social media benefits:

One evident function is amusement and enjoyement . Social media can appear as a springboard for our fantasies, a head of imagination, and an access for escapism. Social media can also supply education and cultivation. Information can come in many kinds, and it may sometimes be harsh to detach from enjoyement. Another beneficial part of social media is its capability to appear as a commun forum for the debate of serious cases. In newspapers or other magazines, letters to the editor permit readers to answer to journalists or to express their points of view on the matters of the day. Social media give people the capacity to contact others  from the other side of the planet and it can gives business owners lots of opportunities. 

• Social media problems:

Moreover, social media is always facing many problems. With so much sharing going on, affaires over privacy will always be a big interest. Whether it’s a question of social sites having your information after it’s posted, turning into a target after sharing your geographical spot online, or even getting in worries at work after tweeting something unsuitable , sharing too much with the crowd can unfold all kinds of problems that sometimes can’t ever be undone. Cyberbullying on social media may cause lots of problems like serious stress, anxiety and even depression. Distraction, procrastination and sleep disruption are also from the main problems of social media.

This message is trying to provoke a will for change to stop hurting ourselves for the comfort of others and stop bullying eachothers. This article is telling us that not only boys can do everything or achieve their goals but also girls can certainly do it.

1- After answering the five questions , I realized that we have to always ask multiple questions in order to understand well the article we’re reading so we can know why this message was created, and if  the message is trying to get me/or anyone else to act or think in a certain way . I also realized that every article is different from the other, every article has its own author, own format, audience, content and most importantly its purpose. Other questions should be asked also like what are the authors credentials? and is someone making money for creating this message ? what’s the source ? is the information true ? ect..

2-  Practicing media literacy on the internet can be both hard and easy . Hard and difficult because not everything you read can be true and trusted so you’ll have to search for the soucres. Easy because technology is improving everyday more and more so it helps us in several ways to practice media literacy .

3- The public has the responsibility to be media literate because not everything written in the media is available for no reason. The information shown in the media have a purpose and sometimes they have a big impact on the public opinion. The public opinion is very important because it can affect persons or subjects so the media have to show the best image of any information or news in order to have a good public opinion. For exemple in the article below the author is talking about her experience in discrimination about fat women or even women for having a specific body .
